Here at Whincop Garage, an MOT test starts from only £29 for an MOT test with a free retest in case it fails.
We are a DVSA and VOSA regulated and approved test centre, meaning all our MOT tests fall in line with safety standards set by law. It also means you’re in safe hands when it comes to our mechanics working on your car.
Once completed we will inform you if your car has passed or failed its MOT and if there are any problems or advisories with the vehicle.
If there are, you can book in with us to get any failed items fixed there and then. We will then retest your car, free of charge.

Maximum MOT Fees

For a car (Class 4): the maximum test fee is £54.85.

For a standard motorcycle (Class 1 or 2): the maximum is £29.65.

Other types of vehicles have different maximums depending on class (e.g. 3-wheeled vehicles, goods vehicles).

No VAT on MOT Test Fee

MOT test fees do not include VAT, so the cap is on the total price you pay, not before tax.

Garages must not add extra admin or card fees that push the charge above the maximum allowed.

Retests

If a vehicle fails its MOT and is returned to the same centre for a retest within a set time window, partial retests may be free (depending on the garage / test centre).

If a retest is done after that window, or by a different test centre, a retest fee is likely up to the full maximum for that vehicle class.

Enforcement & Legality

Garages are legally bound not to exceed the DVSA’s maximum test fee. If they do, they may be subject to enforcement.

The DVSA keeps guidance for MOT testers (Authorised Examiners) to ensure the fees they charge are fair and within the legal limits.
